flowers in the hair, flowers everywhere ...

Oh it is true that the earth is laughing lately with flowers! They are everywhere!

Etian keeps popping dandelion flowers in my pockets, Semay literally picked ALL...and I mean ALL my tulips in one swoop and brought it proudly to me behind her back.

It might just be my favourite week  where no matter where you look a blossom popped open where only two weeks ago all branches were bare.

This week at Inspiration Avenue the theme is "Sad girl with flowers in her hair". I can't imagine being sad if I had flowers in my hair, but I did find this painting I did a while back and she actually does look sad.

Much like the blossoms she appeared out of nowhere. I was planning to paint over an old abstract I didn't like, wanting just a white canvas to start again. But then a dress started to appear and soon my trusty skewer came out and I scratched  the face and flower.

I'm also submitting it to Paint Party Friday - to see some amazing artists hop on over to these sights.

Have a wonderful week everyone!

mint and butter yellow

My mom passed away a few years ago and this mother's day I can't help but miss her.

She made a few heart breaking mistakes, but all I remember now was what she did right. She was a true lady with such a sense of style.

Well I believe she would have loved this season - tell me how is that we have been wearing nothing but blue jeans for so long.

All those candy colored hues are so refreshing don't you think. My favourite is the mint colored jeans. Mixing that with buttery yellow and we got a color combination keeping me up at night ;) I know- it's strange but I truly want to wear it, paint with it and even cook with it.

The other thing I miss about my mom is her cooking. Oh my could she cook! This "sago" recipe always waited for us on cold Sunday afternoons, South African's twist on tapioca. With sweet apricot jam, custard and meringue.

I hope you all have a wonderful mother's day, and mom... this piece of pudding is for you.
Miss you

The painting is titled "miss you"
and is painted in watercolors and acrylic.
It's part of painting party Friday and
will be available in my Etsy store soon

May Flowers

With so many cute flower crafts and stickers around this time of year, we decided to make our own blossoming tree.

With a branch from outside we slowly add whatever crafts the kids are doing that day.

Semay even made some out of play dough- including a chrysalis, but my favourites are the giant papertowel beauties dyed with neon food coloring.

Next ones are these gorgeous but easy looking ones

May day

Yesterday we celebrated May Day. I remember reading about it in old pioneer novels, communities coming together to celebrate the arrival of May - dancing around a May pole with ribbons, leaving bundles of flowers on people's door steps, ringing the door bell and running away... such fun!

We only ended up dancing to this tune

while circling our pole in the living room with string, but next year I hope to add a bit more tradition like this family.

And oh if you have a moment and want your day filled with color have a look at this.

Raining sprinkles

As I write this I can hear the rain outside sweetly drizzle and it is so soothing.
After 6 months of snow a little rain is a nice change. This painting was inspired by my daughter and her wild imagination. What if it rained sprinkles? We probably wouldn't look so somber, but instead run around with cupcakes and mouths open. Oh wouldn't that be something - sprinkle season instead of mud season!

I will have prints of her available in my shop soon.
